  9.  AB    OBJECTIVES: Identification of some contextual factors associated with
  10.        unprotected anal intercourse. METHOD AND SAMPLE: Two volunteer samples
  11.        were interviewed by telephone. One (Project Male-Call) in May-June 1992
  12.        with 2583 men nationwide who had had male-to-male sex during the
  13.        preceding five years. A further 3906 non gay community attached men were
  14.        interviewed (BANGAR Project). Data were collected regarding sexual
  15.        practice and its social and physical contexts. ANALYSIS AND RESULTS:
  16.        Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses were carried out to
  17.        investigate the correlates of unprotected anal intercourse. Unprotected
  18.        intercourse is more likely to occur in a 'regular' relationship; in a
  19.        'casual' relationship where the partner is known and trusted; in the
  20.        home; when sexual partners are sought in straight bars or through
  21.        friends. CONCLUSION: Among non gay community attached men unprotected
  22.        intercourse is not so much a characteristic of the person as something
  23.        which occurs in certain personal and social contexts. This leads to
  24.        suggestions for education and prevention strategies.
